Opportunity to Help Homeless Animals

On June 9, 2010 the national Project Homeless Connect – Flathead Valley event will be held at the Samaritan House Administration Building in Kalispell from 9am – 4pm.  This one-day event is organized to assist homeless or at-risk Flathead Valley citizens with needed services from the public sector, private sector and non-profit organizations.

In addition to people services, Project Homeless Connect will also offer an on-site one-day shelter for animals who accompany their owners to the event.  For this reason, the Humane Society of Northwest Montana is combining efforts with the Flathead County Animal Shelter, Flathead Shelter Friends, Flathead Spay & Neuter Task Force, and Grizzly Moon Mobile Animal Service Hospital to offer peace of mind to the owners who are reluctant to leave their pets.  With the help of local animal lovers and veterinary caregivers, our collective organizations will be able to offer basic grooming, dispense vaccinations, provide basic health checks, distribute dog licenses, offer pet care advice and give out new collars, leashes, and pet food, etc.

Because this effort will require a variety of resources, we’re asking Humane Society volunteers for help.  We need to fill two shifts on Wednesday, June 9th.  The first shift is from 8:30am – 12:30pm and the second shift is from 12:30pm – 4:30pm.  If you would like to volunteer for a full day, please let us know  Although the event is taking place at the Samaritan House Administration Building in Kalispell located off Meridian Road just south of Center Street, “all” volunteers “must” pre-register with the United Way in order to be covered under insurance and to participate.  Therefore, if interested in volunteering, please email volunteers@hsnwmt.com or call Colleen at 752-7297.  Volunteers are encouraged to sign-up ASAP.
