Leadership Flathead Raises Funds for Homeless Animals
Kalispell, MT – The Humane Society of Northwest Montana in partnership with Leadership Flathead is pleased to announce that the Shake Your Tail Gala held in Whitefish on March 7 raised more than $50,000 to benefit homeless animals. Due to the volunteer participation of the 2014 Leadership Flathead Class, this year’s sold out Shake Your Tail Gala doubled its fundraising goal. Proceeds from the Gala will be used to support direct critical animal care for orphaned cats and dogs at the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center.
The Leadership Flathead Class of 2014 selected the Humane Society as their second year stewardship project and served on the Shake Your Tail Gala committee. Committee members include: Noreen Cady, Teri Dugan, Kelly Gallipeau, Sally Johnson, Erick Moy, Mikel Parrish, Becky Shoemaker, Tammy Walker, and Erica Wirtala.
The Shake Your Tail Gala Committee was comprised of Chairperson & Humane Society Board Member, Jeannine Trousdale, Leadership Flathead Class of 2014 and other Humane Society Board Members. Together the committee exceeded its fundraising goal by engaging the community. Twenty-four business leaders provided support through financial sponsorships and sixty other local businesses donated over 60 auction items. A one-carat diamond pendant raffle item was donated in memory of Lois Lingle, a former Humane Society volunteer and animal lover.
The committee also engaged the support of local youth to teach them the value of becoming the future stewards of Flathead Valley. The Whitefish and Columbia Falls High School Art Departments created ceramic dog bowls and the Girl Scout Troup #3388 made ceramic napkin rings that were used for table decorations and given away as door prizes.
Leadership Flathead is a two-year program sponsored by the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce to identify and motivate emerging and existing leaders. The program provides leadership development to participants to maximize their contribution to the community and engage in local stewardship.
